The photographer

Campbell "Cam" Shepard

I'm Cam, a Frederick, MD photographer, and I treat every session as a collaboration. That might be a couple at golden hour, or a business owner who's tired of looking like a stock photo. My job is the same either way: understand what matters to you, build the environment where real moments happen, and deliver images you'll actually want to use, on your wall or on your website. The experience should feel easy. The results should feel like you.

The difference is the edit

Pressing the shutter is half the job. Every image you receive gets individual attention: light, color, and tone, all balanced by hand. Drag the line and see for yourself.

Where we shoot ◆ Frederick, MD

Three spots I never get tired of

Downtown Frederick, MD rooftops and a church steeple against a pink sunset sky, photograph by Campbell Shepard

Downtown Frederick

Downtown Frederick is one of those places I never run out of. Brick, bridges, painted alleys, and a sky like this over the rooftops when the light goes soft.

Hood College Blazers building at golden hour with a bird crossing the sunset, Frederick, MD, photograph by Campbell Shepard

Hood College

Brick, ivy, and the Blazers building when the sun drops behind it. Late-day campus light is unreal here, and it makes senior and graduation portraits feel like they belong somewhere.

Baker Park

Open lawns, old trees, and room to roam. Where a lot of my Frederick family and pet sessions end up, Salty Chief K9's whole pack included.

These are favorites, not rules. If you have a spot that means something to you, in Frederick or beyond, that's where we'll shoot.

Kind words

From the people in the photos

"They actually look like me, not like me trying to look good."

Melissa Bohlander

Our engagement session with Campbell was absolutely amazing. He was so flexible and open to trying new ideas, which made the whole experience feel fun and unique to us. His ability to capture raw emotion is incredible. Every photo feels genuine and true to who we are. We're so grateful for the way he blended creativity with authenticity, giving us images that we'll cherish forever!

Carsen Delmont

Cam has a way of making the whole experience feel completely natural. I was so at ease that I forgot I was being photographed, and that's exactly what shows up in the photos. They actually look like me, not like me trying to look good.

Melissa Bohlander

We had an absolutely amazing experience with this photographer for my daughter's prom photos! From the very beginning, he was attentive, approachable, and incredibly professional. Even though he's just starting his business, you would never know it by the quality of his work and the way he handled the entire session.

He made the girls feel comfortable and confident, had so many creative ideas for poses and locations, and truly wanted to maximize every minute of our time with him. He was also very accommodating and patient, making sure everyone got the photos they wanted while keeping the experience fun and relaxed.

The photos turned out beautiful, and the entire experience exceeded our expectations. He was simply amazing, and I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a talented photographer who genuinely cares about his clients and his craft!

Toni Gordon

Campbell is as professional as they come. We received top notch photographs to remember a very special day. Couldn't have asked for anything more.

Zach Lafaver

Cam is the best in the business! You can tell he cares about what he does. Nobody I would rather have behind the lens.

Nick Ruszala

Campbell was absolutely amazing to work with. He made our engagement shoot feel so easy and fun from start to finish. His energy, creativity, and ability to make us feel comfortable resulted in the most beautiful, natural photos we'll cherish forever. We couldn't have asked for a better experience!

Matthew Sanders

Campbell has taken my photos several times now and I have been so impressed every time. As a photographer, he is very patient and easygoing, making the experience very comfortable. He did a great job coordinating the locations and giving directions throughout. The photos he took of my graduation authentically captured how I felt so beautifully, both in the posed and candid shots. I'd absolutely recommend hiring Campbell for any moment you want preserved.

Liora Bushee

Cam made us feel completely at ease from the moment we arrived. He was prepared, engaged, and genuinely invested in getting it right, not just going through the motions. The photos speak for themselves, but it's the way he shows up that makes the experience worth recommending.

Andrei Shiller

Campbell was incredible to work with for my session. Not only was he professional but also extremely engaging which made me feel comfortable while he was shooting. He has a unique and artistic eye which makes his style one of a kind. I couldn't recommend better!

Ava Kemp

Campbell is a remarkably gifted photographer whose eye for detail and effortless artistry consistently transforms ordinary moments into cherished memories. His dedication ensures every photo he captures feels polished, elegant, and genuinely unforgettable. He takes great care not only in the moment, but afterward as well, thoughtfully perfecting each image to make sure it looks exactly as it should for you.

People deciding to book a photographer are mostly trying to answer one question: what's it actually like to work with this person? If we've made photos together, a couple of honest sentences on Google answer that better than anything I could write about myself.

Questions people actually ask

How far ahead should I book?

For portraits, families, and pets, a couple of weeks is usually plenty, though golden-hour slots go first. Engagements and weddings book further out, so the sooner you reach out, the more likely your date is open. Either way, ask. The worst case is we find another day.

What should we wear?

Whatever feels like you on a good day. Once you book, I'll send simple guidance: what photographs well, what to avoid, and how to coordinate without matching. The short version is that comfort beats costume every time.

How many photos do we get, and when?

Every session lists a range on the services page, and think of that as the floor, not the ceiling. When a session produces more good frames than the number on the tin, you'll see them. I'm not in the business of keeping good photos of you from you. Every image is hand-edited, and your online gallery typically lands in your inbox within a couple of weeks.

What if we need to cancel or reschedule?

Life happens, and rescheduling is free with 48 or more hours of notice. If you cancel inside 48 hours, half the deposit covers the date I held for you and the rest comes back to you. Weather is the exception and never counts against you. If the forecast turns, we just pick a new day.

Will you confirm everything before the shoot?

Yes. I'll confirm the plan about a week out, then check in again 24 to 48 hours before, with a weather call if we're shooting outside. If anything comes up in between, reach me by email, text, or phone and I'll get back to you.

What happens if the weather turns?

We watch the forecast together, and if it looks grim we simply pick a new day. No drama, no penalty. Light overcast is actually great light, so don't write off a cloudy forecast too fast.

Do you travel outside Frederick?

Happily. Frederick is home base, and I regularly shoot across Maryland and the DMV. For businesses and events I'll go further. I've covered Crossover Mission's youth basketball work down in Vero Beach, Florida, and I'm open to wherever the story is. Tell me what you're picturing and we'll make it work.

How do I schedule a pet session?

The same way you'd book a portrait session, because that's what it is. Pet sessions live under Portraits & Couples, with the same pricing and the same care. Book the session, bring the dog, or just send the dog. Some of my favorite frames ever happened because someone's dog refused to behave.
